Dogs being social creatures desire to be around us 24/7. Anxiety may be triggered when they are left alone. When anxious a dog may refuse to eat unless people are around. They may cry, whine, soil, lick a spot on their body, chew on things, or break things trying to get out to find their family.
What we do at Patty Wags for your pup:
Not eating. We will sit with your pup. Often our presence comforts the pup and the pup will eat. Per your approval, we may add a starter (apple, cheese, chicken, salmon) as a topper to enhance or trigger the pup's appetite. If still not eating, we will take up the food, go for walk, and try again later with the meal. Eventually pups do eat after they are used to the environment and routine.
Behaviour issues. These are minimized and/or reduced by moving my work area in the midst of the pups' environment. Having a person in their midst calms the pups down immensely. We exercise, play with the pups. We provide rest on a consistent schedule providing a calming environment.
